LTBLI’s 2025 Solar Celebration Recap
On June 17th, 176 people celebrated the power of solar to change lives.
We gathered at Silo City under the iconic silos to hear great music by Johnny and the Man Kids, eat delicious food prepared by Louise Sano of Global Villages, dance with Eric Ansuade and the SlyBoots Circus.
We made friends – new and old – and recommitted ourselves to shining a light on poverty and climate change. We toasted our power to support others and our desire to live in a peaceful and collaborative world. To all of those who joined us – THANK YOU! To those who were unable to come, mark your calendar for June 16, 2026!
Below are a few words from my welcome speech:
“We’re living in a time when empathy is labeled weakness by some. But not by us! It happens to be our super power!
Look around. Here are friends and neighbors who aren’t afraid to care! Friends and neighbors who are brightening lives halfway around the world. The lives of people they’ll probably never meet.
In a time of upheaval and increasing tribalism, when we’re told to focus on ourselves and our own needs, YOU are here demonstrating the power of collective action, that we can support people struggling to meet their basic needs. Look around. Here are people brave enough, imaginative enough to think about others.
We come from different parts of the city, different countries, political affiliations, experiences, backgrounds, means, but we’re willing to open our own eyes to recognize the humanity in one another’s eyes. We’re willing to acknowledge our shared humanity, our shared ecosystem. I am so proud to stand here with you.
As some are withdrawing critical, life saving aid for healthcare, education, reproductive rights, poverty, and human rights, YOU showed up here at Duende. YOU chose to say you care. Look around. Thank one another. Get to know one another – make a new friend or two! And let’s Shine On, my friends!”
Thanks to you all, we’re shining on together. See you in 2026!
