LTBLI’s 2018 Annual Appeal Letter
DONATE SOLAR HERE
Dear Friends,
It’s been a great year at Let There Be Light International! We’ve solar-electrified health clinics, donated solar lights to off-grid families, advocated for meeting the basic needs of the poor, and participated in global climate conferences. But we need your help!
- Children in an off-grid village in Uganda hearing about Solar Lights for the first time
- LTBLI meeting with an Elder to talk about how she uses her Solar Light
- Brenda, 14, studying at home with her Solar Light
Holiday Goal
Our goal this holiday season is to replace 1,500 dirty and dangerous kerosene lights with safe, renewable solar lights and to solar-electrify 4 rural health clinics.
$3,500 provides a solar system to a health clinic
$2,500 donates light to an entire school
$150 lights 10 homes
$75 provides lights to 5 students
$50 supplies solar lights to 3 families
$15 gives light to a family
Our Impact
Since 2014, Let There Be Light International (LTBLI) has donated solar lights to 8,350 impoverished families in Uganda and Malawi, impacting 45,000 people. Beneficiaries are identified by local partners as living in extreme poverty and in one of our M.O.D.E.S. (Mother, Orphan, Living with a Disability, Elder, Student). We also have installed solar systems on 25 prioritized Ugandan health clinics, improving healthcare for 440,000 people! Examination and maternity wards now are well lit. Staff turnover is down. Hours of operation have increased 40%, and attended births are up 150%.
Why Donate
Last month when I was in Uganda, I saw firsthand the impact of solar lights on the health and safety of off-grid communities. Here’s what a young mother told me:
“One time our mosquito net caught fire from the kerosene lamp and Gloria, (pictured below) was almost burned. Now we can put the solar light inside the bednet and she does her homework with no danger! We use it every day. Thank you!”
- Gloria safely reading beneath her bed net
- Solar helps Teopista extend the hours at her vegetable stand and take care of her children
- A family in Uganda with their solar light they use daily with their 10 children
In fact, flammable bednets are a significant fire risk in many off-grid communities. In 2018, LTBLI brought this overlooked issue to the attention of the World Health Organization and other groups working on malaria prevention.
